Die evangelische Hauptkirche Sankt Michaelis (volkstümlich: Michel) ist der bekannteste Kirchenbau von Hamburg und gilt als bedeutendste Barockkirche Norddeutschlands. Für die Schifffahrt auf der Elbe stellt der weithin sichtbare Sakralbau mit seiner markanten Architektur seit langem das Wahrzeichen der Hansestadt dar. Die Kirche ist nach dem Erzengel Michael benannt, der als große Bronzestatue über dem Hauptportal als Sieger im Kampf mit Satan dargestellt ist. Der Kirchbau steht in der südlichen Neustadt zwischen Ludwig-Erhard-Straße, Krayenkamp und Englischer Planke. Der Kirchturm hat eine Höhe von 132,14 Metern. Das heutige Bauwerk ist ein Wiederaufbau von 1912, nachdem die Kirche 1906 abgebrannt war.
